Signaling in Cancer

Welcome to the Yoon Lab!

Did you know that approximately 40% of people in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer of any kind at some point during their lifetime? Did you also know that when just one minute passes by, more than one person dies of cancer, and more than three people are diagnosed with cancer in the United States?

Cancer is characterized by uncontrolled growth, sustained proliferation, resistance to death, immune system escape, dysregulation of cellular energetics and metabolism, invasion/metastasis, and induction of new blood vessel formation. Altered and dysregulated signaling by genetic/epigenetic modifications and cancer environment enables cancer to acquire those characteristics. We study cancer signaling to determine how cancers obtain their properties. We believe our research on cancer signaling will identify potential strategies to target cancer and to increase the efficacy of current cancer therapies.
